Red medieval embroidered belt from Wroclaw

Out of stock

date: 1250 - 1330

A belt made of thick cowhide vegetable tanned leather with a brass buckle and strap end is decorated with linen thread embroidery. The simple embroidery of intertwining straight lines is based on a fragment from Wrocław (Konczewska 2010 ). The colours are my interpretation. This method of decoration dates back to the 13th and 14th centuries.

According to the manufacturer of the brass fittings, this combination of buckle and strap end could have been worn in between years 1250 and 1330 (Gdansk; England, R. Whitehead "Buckles").

Total length: 155,5cm

parallel embroidery as the field for the holes is in the range of waist circumference 75 - 112cm
