In the winter of 2023 I got my hands on a rather nice commission for accessories for a Jihlava burgher from the first half of the 15th century. The brief was to create a scabbard for an existing dagger, a new girdle purse, shoes and a belt with metal fittings ideally according to the supplied picture from the Gelnhausen Codex...

A small step for mankind, but a slightly bigger step for a man like me - part of my research is published, and my article is in a real book <3 Last year, after visiting the Dordrecht museum depot again during the summer (with the goal just to sketch the few girdle purses that I still lacked details of from...

I do not tend to take too many days off, as my hobby is closely connected to my work, and my work is the dream job I really really enjoy. This winter was somehow different for me, as I finally got the reason to travel south in direction to Switzerland. As I joined the Archaeological leather group (ALG)...

I was not aware, that by finishing the scabbard with the suspention system according to an extant piece from Burgos (more about it here) I stepped into the "Castilian waters" and there was no avoiding a contra action. Project "Kastílie 1312" is a czech reenacting group who focuses on Kastilian noble court from its quirky fashion up to...

Coincidence brings interesting challenges sometimes. Thanks to a photoshoot with Doba Karlova and a newly finished scabbard which was given to the customer there was the theme of the evening talks pushed a little in that direction, and one of the crew members mentioned, a sword which he has at home and is too long without a scabbard....

There are not many well known medieval ornate leather purses, so some motifs get more attention than others. This purse from France, published in the bible of every maker of medieval accesories - "Purses in pieces" by Olaf Goubitz is one of the most famous ones and the one most of us try to make at some point.

The first medieval girdle purses I made were gifts for my husband and two of my friends. It was an ethusiastic project (as I tend to approach these things) after reading O. Goubitz´s Purses in Pieces (published 2009). The book is probably a modern medieval purse makers bible, and shows everythin you need to know before you start on these...

Some commisions take longer time to make than others. My friend Obenda asked me for a scabbard at the end of the year 2019, and the only demands were for it to be pretty, dated to the second half of 14th century and red.

In this section you can revisit some of our previous pieces which are not in stock anymore, but we can make them again, or make something similar as a commission.
